Night Needle

The Space Needle is a major landmark of the Pacific Northwest and a symbol of Seattle. Built for the 1962 World's Fair, it is located at the Seattle Center. The Space Needle is 605 feet high at its highest point, 138 feet wide at its widest point and weighs 9,550 tons. At the time of completion, it was the tallest structure west of the Mississippi River. It is engineered to withstand winds of up to 200 mph and earthquakes up to 9.5 magnitude. The tower has 25 lightning rods mounted on its roof to prevent lightning damage.
