Description
6/9/09 - Abandoned Snake Bridge/”Schuster” Bridge over Lick Creek, Springfield, Illinois.
The 1926-1930 alignment of Route 66 (old Route 4) traveled over this bridge and it was abandoned when IL-4 was rerouted. The harmless Kirtland’s snake (Clonophis kirtlandii), which is an endangered and protected species, lives under this bridge.
I visited this bridge twice and was unable to get a full shot of it minus humans as it is a popular fishing spot in the area.
